A message from the Associate Vice-President
| |
It has been a while since our last newsletter. For this issue, we have a lot of news to share. First of all, we have the NCE competition launch. So far, we have expressions of interest from more than 100 parties. The CECR competition has been completed, and we expect to share results with applicants shortly.
Over the summer and fall, the NCE Secretariat has been providing and will continue to provide input to the ongoing Federal Horizontal Innovation review. We look forward to emerging program and policy initiatives as the government works to improve and strengthen our vibrant Canadian S&T ecosystem.
There are also a number of new members on our Steering and Management Committees: ISED's Dr. Nipun Vats, CIHR’s Dr. Rod McInnes and Dr. Anne Martin-Matthews, and NSERC’s Dr. Marc Fortin. As well, let me take this opportunity to thank Bert van den Berg, who was NSERC’s Acting Vice-President, Research Partnerships, over the summer. He stepped in to provide leadership and guidance as Chair of the NCE Management Committee.
Over the last 20 months, I have had a chance to meet many of you, and I have been impressed with the passion, vision, and commitment that you bring so consistently to your networks and centres. Indeed, Canada’s dynamic Networks and Centres of Excellence programs have accomplished much over the last three decades. As a privileged witness who has worked for the NCE Program in various capacities over 13 years, I am honoured to serve in my current role as Associate Vice-President in charge of the NCE Secretariat. This is the 28th year of the NCE program and there is much more we can accomplish together. I look forward to our continued success.
Jean Saint-Vil
Associate Vice-President

Competition launch for Networks of Centres of Excellence |
| |
This past August, the Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) announced the launch of a competition for NCE networks. The funding available is $75 million over five years. Both new and established networks are eligible to apply for funding in this competition.
Networks are expected to be challenge-focused and solution-driven. Networks should enhance global knowledge in strategic areas and enable the creation and implementation of multifaceted solutions to specific social and economic challenges. They must engage partners in the design and execution of all network activities, including knowledge creation, mobilization and exploitation with the goal of helping build a more advanced, healthy, competitive and prosperous Canada.
The deadline for Letters of Intent is November 15, 2017.
For information on the competition, consult the competition documents and frequently asked questions. |
