in Quebec City

On June 7 and 8, 2010, more than 1,000 stroke researchers from across Canada and around the world gathered in Quebec City for the three-day Canadian Stroke Congress which provided a uniquely Canadian forum in which participants reflecting bench-to-bedside-to-community perspectives of stroke could exchange ideas, collaborate, and learn about innovation in stroke prevention, treatment, and recovery. The congress included a full day of pre-conference workshops, and attracted stroke nurses, physicians, rehabilitation specialists, stroke recovery groups, basic scientists, health policy specialists and others.

The pre-conference workshop day included a full-day of learning for rehabilitation specialists, two distinct stroke nursing courses (delivered in English and French) for frontline nurses, a basic research day, an imaging courses for stroke neurologists, a meeting for stroke recovery groups and more.  Conference highlights included discussion on the future innovations of stroke treatment, as well as the influence of stroke on family relationships and the reversal of roles from child to caregiver.

There were more than 100 speakers at the conference from all parts of Canada, the U.S and Europe. It was an overwhelming success, and the first of what may prove to be an annual event for those involved in stroke research and treatment world-wide.
