The NCE IPI enables Canadian Networks and Centres to be at the forefront of international cutting-edge initiatives. The initiative supports the partnering of Canadian NCEs with foreign organizations to address issues of strategic importance for Canada and where those collaborations could yield mutual benefits. This represents an investment of almost $6 million over two years, with grants awarded in 2007 to seven networks, including:
Launched in 2005, this $1-million-per-year new initiative supports the networking activities of research groups to develop new partnerships with receptor communities.
The 2004 Federal Budget identified additional funding of $5 million a year, starting in 2005-2006 to support the creation of a new NCE Research Network on bovine spongiform encephalopathy (BSE) and other transmissible spongiform encephalopathies (TSE).
One Letter of Intent was received and reviewed by the NCE BSE/TSE International Expert Panel.
Based on the recommendations from the Expert Panel, the NCE Steering Committee invited the group to submit a Full Application by the deadline of September 6, 2005. The NCE BSE/TSE International Expert Panel met again to evaluate the Full Application. The new Network funded was PrioNet Canada.
31 Letters of Intent were received and reviewed by the NCE Selection Committee.
The NCE Steering Committee invited five groups to submit Full Applications by the deadline of April 5, 2004. The Selection Committee met to evaluate the Full Applications. The new Network funded was AllerGen, the Allergy, Genes and Environment Network.
53 Letters of Intent were received and reviewed by the NCE Selection Committee.
The NCE Steering Committee invited seven groups to submit Full Applications by the deadline of March 7, 2003. The Selection Committee met again to evaluate the Full Applications. The Networks funded in the fall of 2003 were ArcticNet and the Advanced Foods and Materials Network.
