The NCE has recently lost two highly esteemed members of its community.
Louis Fortier passed away on Sunday, October 4. Louis is the founder of ArcticNet, the oldest network among current NCE-funded networks. He is recognized internationally as a pillar of arctic science who devoted over 30 years of his life studying the North and the impact of climate change. His passion, vision and drive brought together members of various communities to better the Arctic and Canada.
Hugh Ilyine passed away on September 23. Hugh was a long serving member of the peer review NCE Standing Selection Committee and NCE Monitoring Committee. Hugh’s contributions and experience were extremely valued by the members of the committees. Hugh is remembered as a fine man who was always engaged and interested in the people he met.
The NCE extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends and colleagues of Louis and Hugh.
