Canadian Water Network Researcher Awarded Canada Research Chair in Political Ecology

Dr. Karen Bakker of the University of British Columbia has been awarded a five-year Canada Research Chair in Political Ecology, which began on January 1, 2011. This achievement reflects the endorsement of both the University of British Columbia and Dr. Bakker’s academic peers for her outstanding scholarly career.

In her role as Research Chair, Dr. Bakker will lead interdisciplinary research teams to study the causes of water insecurity, with an aim to develop better public policy on environmental governance and foster water security.

Dr. Bakker is the project leader on a Canadian Water Network-funded study titled Developing a Canadian water security framework as a tool for assessing cumulative impacts and improving watershed governance.

Established in 2001 and headquartered in Waterloo, Ontario, This link will take you to another Web site Canadian Water Network (CWN) was created by the Networks of Centres of Excellence (NCE) program to connect Canadian and international water researchers with decision makers engaged in priority water management issues. CWN is the national conduit that brings together researchers, engineers and their students, along with practitioners and implementers, pooling their resources and uniting expertise to respond to water challenges and ensure a prosperous and healthy future for generations of Canadians.
