On February 4 and 5, 2010, the Canadian Water Network (CWN) invited 13 past, current, and potential participants in its HQP program, as well as Minister of State (Science and Technology) Gary Goodyear, to more closely examine ways to continue to engage young people with CWN’s highly qualified personnel program.

Vancouver Prostate Centre and AstraZeneca Extend Collaborative Research Agreement

The Vancouver Prostate Centre recently announced an extended collaboration with AstraZeneca which will see the Centre of Excellence for Commercialization and Research receiving $700,000 over two years to evaluate molecules that target cell cycle growth to slow, or stop, tumor proliferation in prostate cancer.

Quebec announces a $9 million investment in the Quebec Consortium for Drug Discovery

Mr. Clément Gignac, Minister of Economic Development, Innovation and Export Trade, and Mr. Henri-François Gautrin, Member of the National Assembly for Verdun and Deputy Government House Leader, announce a $9 million financial contribution over three years to the Quebec Consortium for Drug Discovery (CQDM). This support is aimed at ensuring the growth and competitiveness of businesses in the field of life sciences technologies through research and development.

CECR Competition Update

The first stage of the 2010 CECR competition is now closed. The NCE Secretariat received 30 Letters of Intent, and has invited 10 potential centres to submit full applications. Final submissions are due by Tuesday, July 13, 2010, 4:30 PM Eastern Daylight Time (EDT).
